LASER CUTTING - Week 8 - 10

Monday 19/09/11:
THEME: GIFTING.
For this workshop, Robertta and Anthony decided that our gift to Auckland City would be a brand new route of public transport - a tram route that connects Wynyard Quarter to the Vector Arena.

The route must have 12 stops. Each stop must be determined by a theme. For example: If we were to design a 'fashion' route, we might decide that the tram stops in front of fashion stores. Or, if we were to design a 'food' route, we might decided that the tram passes through food courts. After identifying the 12 stops, we each have to pick a location, and design a stop for that area.
From our the 1:1 models we made last week, we each have to pick a material of interest. How this material weathers will be the influence of the 'form' of our design.

Group: (Myself and...)
Shirin Heidari (http://shirinarchi.blogspot.com/)
Nick Johnston (http://nicksarch102blog.wordpress.com/)
Rachel Russel (http://rachaelarch.blogspot.com/)
Theme: A connection of locations that could possibly be a communal space.

12 Stops:

1. Wynyard Quarter
2. Viaduct near Wildfire (on edge of intersection where there's lots of pedestrian traffic?)
3. Water stop - at the end of the Pier where the cloud and shed are.
4. Britomart courtyard
5. Alley near dockside lane, where food places are (possibly up high)
6. Near Vector, underground stop near train tracks.
7. Pool stop in Judges Bay
8. Parnell Rise
9. Constitution hill
10. Uni Quad
11. Really high stop in Apartments blocks near Short St and Law school.
12. Vulcan lane
Then back to Wynyard Quarter

Chosen material: Bamboo.

Research: Weathered Bamboo.
Weathering: The breaking down of artifical and natural materials after being exposed to the earth's atmosphere (wind, water, sun, eyc) after a period of time.
NB: Photos are yet to referenced :)

(Bamboo before weathering. As opposed too...)

(The bamboos I used in my model have weathered a little bit)
